We celebrate Mother’s Day on May 14th. The holiday emerged in the USA and has been established in the Western world since 1914. Mother’s Day can be traced back to the initiative of Methodist Anna Marie Javis. She wrote a letter to politicians, business people, religious communities and women’s societies, to adopt an official holiday for mothers. The movement received great support and so the second Sunday in May was adopted as a national holiday in American legislation. Since then, Mother’s Day is a symbol for loving and honouring mothers and it is celebrated in many countries around the world.
