Praktikum bei WEICON in Münster

My internship at WEICON

So, are you looking for a great internship or just got here randomly? I’m sure some of you came across this blog post by searching online for “internship at WEICON“. Well, you’ve found it, I’d say!

I am Lena, 18 years old, and I will tell you a little bit about my internship at the Muenster-based producer of adhesives and sealants WEICON. I started my internship in the advertisement department on July 11th, 2019. At WEICON, you can do internships in many different areas, but as I will complete my apprenticeship in design technique next year and I would like to keep studying this field at university afterwards, this department was perfect for me!

But why WEICON?

The company’s headquarters are located in the beautiful city of Muenster, yet it operates worldwide. What I found particularly special was the company’s own advertisement department: Everything in terms of advertising material – no matter if it’s online or print material, in English, Korean or Italian – is designed and produced entirely at the WEICON premises. For me, that was super exciting! It gave me the chance to gain a very comprehensive insight. What I realised: It is a completely different thing to deal with topics of design and advertisement in school than it is in the real working world. Thanks to WEICON, I really learned a lot.

What I have learned

Speaking of learning. I’m sure you’d like to know what experiences I took home with me after my eight-week internship. Naturally, due to my apprenticeship in design technique, I had already some experience in designing minor projects, but WEICON gave me the responsibility for bigger tasks straight away, such as designing a 1 x 2 metre banner. Which gave me a few things to figure out: Neither my screen was 2 metres long, nor the paper which I usually use for control prints. Which is why I couldn’t really imagine the finished banner. Moreover, I had literally never designed anything this big. It was a completely new challenge for me, which I enjoyed meeting and managed successfully. Without wanting to brag, I can proudly say that I rose to quite a few challenges throughout those eight weeks. At the same time, I could always count on the help of my colleagues.

Daily routine

What did a typical day during my internship look like? I got to the office in the morning, where some of my colleagues already greeted me happily – well, semi-happily on rare occasions (but, let’s face it, who enjoys Mondays). Then I checked my emails to see if there were any new tasks for me. Often, my colleagues also came to my office to provide me with new assignments. I never got bored, I can tell you that! Yet, regular breaks were also part of my day, of course: For breakfast, all colleagues from the advertisement department gathered in the kitchen with their Muesli bowls. I was included straight away and we all ate together and enjoyed the time to chat. I generally have to say that all colleagues were really friendly and always very helpful. After breakfast, everyone went back to work until lunch. Which doesn’t mean I only sat at my desk though. I often joined our photographer Rin, for example, when it was time for new application or event photos. After my lunch break, I continued working until 4 pm, when it was time to head home.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed my internship at WEICON! My colleagues were very friendly, I learned a lot from the tasks I was given and I really had the feeling to contribute with my work. Which means I wasn’t just kept busy with the typical internship tasks like making coffee. WEICON included me in the company’s daily work and that was a great experience. That is why I can highly recommend doing an internship here. I have learned a lot which I will definitely benefit from in the future. Who knows, maybe I will do another internship at WEICON for my university studies.
