Not only can you stick things together with our epoxy resin system Easy-Mix N 5000, you can also create very beautiful and unique jewellery. We were inspired by many artists who already work with other epoxy resins and wondered whether we could do it with our products too. Since we have a large selection of epoxy resins in our assortment, we first had to find the right type. Some of the products weren’t suited because of the various fillers or because they weren’t visually appealing.
How do you create jewellery with adhesives?
First, you need silicone moulds, depending on what is being cast. If you’d like to make a pendant, moulds with a little groove that you can thread a chain through later are ideal. There is now a large selection of moulds on the market and they are very easy to find online. Now just the filling materials are missing. We decided to use a natural filling, like heather and lavender. There are no limits to your creativity here. However flowers should be dried so that their colour doesn’t change when the temperature rises. We first tried it with fresh flowers but were disappointed with the results the next day: the flowers had wilted and did not look beautiful any more. But its all about learning and experiencing new things, and especially trying different ways of doing things. If you’d like to make something elegant you can also add gold leaf or rhinestones.
Layer by layer
Epoxy resins consist of two components, a resin and a hardener. Before casting, these two components must be in a specific ratio to one another. The advantage of our product: It comes in a dispenser gun that already consists of two chambers. Thanks to the double cartridge the two components are automatically mixed in the right ratio and you can start casting the material immediately. If you are using light materials, like sand or glitter, you should cast in multiple layers, so first a layer of adhesive, then wait a little until it dries, sprinkle sand on top and then apply another layer of adhesive. Repeat this process until the mould is filled. You just have to try things out and experiment a bit.
You can always add something the next day and improved rough areas with another layer. The epoxy resin is like glass and releases from the mould easily. A light polish gives the piece its finish. Add gloss varnish spray or clear nail polish for the final touch. Simply apply after the resin has hardened.
The only other difference to other casting resins: unfortunately our N 5000 isn’t crystal clear; instead it shimmers with an amber colour. But we think it still looks beautiful!
