Used bike restored with WEICON products
In a cycling city like Muenster, a bike is an absolute must-have. This is why my colleagues Michael got his old treasure up and running again. Even if it didn’t look very promising in the beginning, he was able to rescue the rusty old Dutch bike from 1958. A couple of hours of work, he had a good-as-new Single Speed Bike or Cafe Racer in the popular retro style.
For its restoration, Michael mainly worked with products from WEICON.
Restoring the frame
After a complete disassembly, Michael began working on restoration of the frame. The old paint coat was sanded off by hand and the surface cleaned with our WEICON Surface Cleaner. The WEICON Repair Stick Steel was used to mend the damages. Afterwards I used the Surface Cleaner to clean again and applied several coats of Rust Protection 2000 PLUS in anthracite.
Restoration of the attachments parts
In the next step, he cleaned the chainguard with the Surface Cleaner and polished it. Then, he cleaned and polished the sprockets, primed them with zinc spray and then coated them with our Aluminium Spray A-400. The same procedure was applied for the decorative parts: Cleaning, polishing, priming with Zinc Spray and painting.
The rims and brakes were treated with Surface Cleaner and polished. Michael also renewed the brake cables and replaced the protective sheath.
Assembly
The next step was to assemble the frame and grease the steering head bearings, bottom bracket bearings and wheel bearings with WEICON Al-F and then reinsert them again. The handles, bell and front brakes had to be attached to the handlebars and the handlebars placed on the frame.
The new mudguards and wheels with the new tubes and tyres also had to be mounted.
Michael treated the new chain with Chain and Rope Spray before attaching it and then mounted the chainguard.
The work was completed by attaching the decorative parts, headlight and the new saddle.
