No barbecue without cleaning
Summer time is barbecue time and the warm temperatures release our inner barbecue champion. Tender steaks, crispy sausages, colourful veggie skewers – on the grill, many delicacies can be cooked to perfection. Throw in some bread and a fresh salad and everybody’s happy.
For you to be able to enjoy your summer companion for a long time, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential. I will show you which WEICON products are perfect for gentle cleaning and care – exemplified with a gas barbecue.
All WEICON products for your barbecue
WEICON Contact Spray
May I introduce? Our WEICON Contact Spray! It protects and maintains electrical components and – surprise – contacts. More precisely this means it repels moisture from electrical contacts, prevents leakage current and voltage drop and keeps contacts, fuses, cable connections etc. free from oxidation and sulphide layers. On our gas barbecue, the spray is perfect for maintaining the terminal contacts of the electric ignition.
WEICON Foam Cleaner
Another useful product – this time, for cleaning and maintaining the outer surfaces of the barbecue – is our WEICON Foam Cleaner. It removes grease as well as grease crusts easily. Due to its NSF registration, it can be used wherever food is handled. That way, you can safely clean the outer surfaces of your barbecue with this product.
Metal-Fluid
The next one is our Metal-Fluid, which can also be used in the food sector and cleans, maintains and cares for the metal surfaces of your barbecue – matt or polished. The Metal-Fluid leaves a nice, silk-matt finish, which protects the surface from future soilings.
Leak Detection Spray
Attention! Those of you using a gas barbecue should definitely check the gas port for leaks, before starting the barbecue season. Our WEICON Leak Detection Spray is perefct for doing so. In order to detect leaks, apply the spray to all gas-carrying connections and then open the gas supply. You can immediately spot leakages by bubbles emerging. You can eliminate the leaks by retightening the connections or by replacing damaged components.
WEICONLOCK 302-43
Even if you’re keeping it tight, you might have a srew loose – of course, I’m talking about your barbecue, what else? Screw connections, like the ones on the handle of the barbecue, can be secured with our WEICONLOCK® AN 302-43. Simply apply a small amount of the adhesive to the screw, then screw it into the thread and the handle is fastened. By the way, our AN 302-43 resists temperatures up to 200 °C.
Anti-Seize High-Tech Montagepaste
Last but not least, I recommend our WEICON Anti-Seize High-Tech Assembly Paste. This little helper also has an NSF registration and can stand temperatures up to 1,400 °C. The paste protects against corrosion and thus prevents the seizing up of delicate screw connections, like the ones on the burner.
Cleaning the grill grates
After every cosy barbecue night, the grill grates need to be cleaned in the end. A tedious job that no one really likes to do. Whoever says otherwise is simply a liar. Still, my recommendation to you is not to neglect this task, so you can enjoy your little outdoor kitchen for a long time and the food you cook is still edible.
The particularly clever ones amongst you perhaps clean their grill grates straight away, while they are still hot, for residues can then be easily removed with a wire bush. However, once the grates are cooled down and you might have avoided cleaning it all night, there are still a number of tricks and remedies you can use for cleaning. Two of those I would like to present in the following:
Newspaper or paper towels
Wrap the cooled down grill grates in damp newspaper or paper towels and then leave to soak over night. What works even better is leaving the grill grates on the grass over night, as the dew gives off additional moisture. Thanks to the newspaper hack, encrusted grease comes off easily and cleaning the grates with a wire brush becomes much easier. Finally, just rinse off the grates with clear water or put them – depending on the material – in the dish washer. Before using them again, the grill grates should be greased, for example with some bacon rind or olive oil.
Coffee grounds
Coffee grounds work just like sand paper and are thus perfect for cleaning solings off of the grill grates. Simply put some cold coffee grounds on a sponge and then wipe off the grill grates.
