Does this sound familiar? You love wearing your favourite shoes day in, day out. Even if the soles are starting to come off, you really don’t want to say goodbye to those shoes. Or imagine a different situation: after a wild night of partying, your feet are sore – and you find yourself suddenly holding a broken high heel in your hand.
If this sounds familiar, you’ve come to the right place. Because we will reveal not only how you can repair your shoes, but also which glue will do the job best.
Gluing the soles of your shoes with superglue
If you want to reattach the sole, don’t use hot glue: it will get too hard and isn’t resistant to moisture! It’s much better to use a superglue that remains elastic after hardening. After all, your shoe soles are flexible and have to withstand strain with every step that you take.
First of all: clean your shoes
Before applying any glue, it’s crucial that you clean the surfaces which will be glued together. It’s best to use a gentle cleaner that does not attack the material of your shoe. In this article, we’ll explain why cleaning before gluing is super important.
The perfect shoe glue
Our rubber-filled Contact VA 30 Black Cyanoacrylate Adhesive cures with residual elasticity and is resistant even to prolonged exposure to moisture. So, it’s really the perfect shoe glue! Due to its medium fluidity, it’s great for gluing the annoying little kinks in the soles of shoes where water tends to run in during walks in the rain.
For very narrow glue gaps, we strongly recommend our Dosing Tip. For larger areas, it’s best to use our Contact VA 250 Black Cyanoacrylate Adhesive which is less fluid!
Once you have applied the superglue, you have to press the sole carefully onto your shoes. Speaking of taking care: don’t forget to wear gloves during the entire gluing process!
After about 24 hours, your shoes are ready for the next walk.
Tip: to prevent the black glue from ending up on the leather of your shoe, you can cover the area with some masking tape beforehand.
Repairing a broken high heel
There is also the perfect shoe glue for a broken heel. These stylish high heels have a plastic heel. This definitely calls for our Plastic-Bond – an adhesive that adheres especially well to plastic.
The same principle applies to this shoe repair: put on gloves, clean the surface, apply the adhesive and let it cure. But bear in mind that our Plastic-Bond is a two-component adhesive. This means that you have to mix it well before use – for example with a small wooden spatula. Conveniently, a mixing nozzle is included in the Set, so you don’t have to mix the adhesive manually.
If you have high heeled shoes whose screws have come loose, make sure to put the glue in the screw holes as well.
After about twelve hours, the shoe glue has hardened, and you can return to the dance floor without worries.
Tip: you can easily remove fresh glue, that has just seeped out along the edge, with the previously used multi-foam and a cloth.
