I am Zoe, 19 years old, done with school since 2019 and a creative mind from Drensteinfurt. Today, I will tell you a little bit about my internship at WEICON, the Muenster-based producer of adhesives and sealants.
On November 4th, 2019, I started my internship in the advertising department at WEICON. The fact that I was assigned to this department was no coincidence. I was absolutely determined to start an apprenticeship as media designer for digital and print media in 2020, and I figured that a little on-the-job experience beforehand certainly wouldn’t do any harm.
Why WEICON?
I first heard of WEICON at the apprentices speed dating organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (German: IHK). Elated by the interesting afternoon, I immediately sent out my application for an internship and received a positive feedback very fast.
At the same time, the application period for the apprenticeship programmes of the coming year was just starting. So I encountered WEICON again on the internet and ultimately, I didn’t only apply for the internship there, but also for the apprenticeship as media designer digital and print.

Internship at WEICON – my experiences
The atmosphere within the company
WEICON has about 270 employees by now, and I have to admit that at first, I was a little afraid of being overlooked. But I was definitely wrong! The atmosphere at WEICON and among the employees is very warm and friendly, and they treated me as an equal co-woker straight away.
The beginning
If you know a little bit about the field of advertising, you surely know that a firm grasp of the standard design software – such as Photoshop or InDesign – is essential. When I started working at WEICON, I pretty much started from scratch. But I quickly learned how both programmes work. I could try out a lot myself and had my own responsibilities right from the start. Yet, whenever I needed help, my colleagues were always there for me. After getting used to the software during the first week, I could help with “the real work“. So at WEICON, the cliché of the intern who only makes coffee certainly isn’t true.
My tasks
Looking back, I can definitely say that my daily work was very interesting and varied! Besides tasks like editing photos or creating layouts, I could also catch a glimpse into the marketing as well as into the PR department. In addition, I was able to participate in trainings, during which I learned more about hazardous goods or the range of WEICON TOOLS. And every Thursday, I went to the apprentice academy, where all apprentices learn more about the many WEICON products and can even try them out in hands-on applications.
During my six-week internship, I was able to gain so many different and valuable experiences. And one thing quickly became very clear to me: that the job as media designer is exactly the right thing for me!
Now, I am really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship at WEICON next year! That’s right: I was chosen for the apprenticeship position in 2020! Another proof of how valuable internships are.
