Basic equipment for every handyman – the WEICON Starter Set Pro
Our Starter Set Pro is a must-have for every handyman. The functional suitcase contains the most important tools for professionals, but also for DIY enthusiasts.
In our many blog posts, we have already shown by means of many different applications what our chemical products are capable of and how you can use them for your DIY projects. But what about our WEICON TOOLS? Since 1967, we have been developing, producing and distributing a broad range of stripping tools under the brand name WEICON TOOLS. This range includes cable strippers, wire strippers, stripping tools, multi-purpose strippers as well as special tools.
In this series of articles, I will take a closer look at the different tools comprised in our Starter Set Pro and I will show you how these sophisticated tools work. In the beginning of the series, the Cable Stripper No. S 4-28 will play the leading role.
Once upon a time ...
Before I show you the functioning of our cable stripper with great attention to detail, we will take a quick leap through time back to the beginnings of the original cable stripper: The oldest and best-known is most likely the simple folding knife.
Stripping cables with a folding knife, however, requires extremely precise and careful working in order to just slit the sheath without damaging the electrical conductor. Modern cable knives carry out this high-precision work for you – without damaging the cable or risk of injury.
That’s how a cable stripper works today – our S 4-28
Our Cable Stripper S 4-28, which is part of the Starter Set Pro, is a great help for all handymen. But what makes working with this tool so convenient? The answer: the rotatable inner knife with infinitely adjustable setscrew! This allows you to carry out fast and clean circular and longitudinal cuts on the cable without risk of injury.
To fully understand this function, we will take a closer look inside the tool: On the left, you can see the inside of our cable stripper with the red setscrew as well as the inner knife. You can infinitely adjust the height of the inner knife by means of the setscrew. That way, you can adjust it precisely to the sheath thickness without damaging the electrical conductor in the stripping process. Moreover, the cranked inner knife can rotate freely in a radial direction. This means that you can carry out a so-called circular cut on the cable. While doing so, the inner knife cuts into the sheath, aligns itself and severs the sheath. Two to three rotations are enough to achieve a precise cross section.
At the same time, you can perform a longitudinal cut without repositioning. By aligning the cable stripper lengthwise to the cable, the small inner knife immediately adjusts to the pulling direction thanks to its cranking. The adjusted height is not altered by that. The result: a precise, consistent cut in a very short time. Even removing longer stretches of insulation material is not a problem for our cable stripper.
Routing the cable and centering the inner knife is achieved by the holding bracket, which is equipped with a tension spring. To demonstrate the function of the holding bracket, we have inserted a NYM cable, which is shown on the right. To carry out the circular cut mentioned above you simply have to push the cable lightly onto the holding bracket. Our Cable Stripper S 4-28 is suitable for cable diameters of 4 mm to 28 mm.
