Helpful tips from WEICON
We know many applications of our products regarding the world of horse riding equipment. Why? Some of our colleagues working at our headquarters in Muenster pursue horse riding as a hobby, own their own horse or have friends or family who are into equestrian sports. Are you also a horse riding enthusiast? Do you like to shop for yourself and for your horse? Do things break occasionally? Unfortunately, horse riding equipment is pretty pricy and so is the horse, too. Of course it’s fun to go to a store or an exhibition and buy new things. Yet, you can care for, repair and maintain many things by using our products. Here are a few tips:
Tip 1 – Maintaining zippers on boots
A classic, which never lasts as long as expected, is the riding boot. After one or two years, at the latest, the zipper needs to be replaced.
But why does the zipper break that fast? Through daily use, horse hair and dirt particles accumulate in the zipper preventing it from closing properly.
In order to clean the zipper – especially without water, as this is harmful to the leather – we reccommend WEICON Silicone-Spray. Just use the spray briefly on the zipper and it will run smoothly again.
Tip 2 – Stirrup holder
How can you securely fasten your stirrup holder to your saddle and prevent accidents? We recommend our Threadlocking WEICONLOCK AN 302-43. The threadlocking varnish prevents the screws from loosening, rusting and breaking. This is how you apply it:
Step 1: Pull the strap through the ring on the saddle.
Step 2: Stick the screw through the hole in the strap.
Step 3: Apply WEICONLOCK AN 302-43 to the screw.
Step 4: Screw the counterpart onto the screw and tighten it.
Step 5: Wipe off the spare WEICONLOCK AN 302-43 with a paper towel.
Tip 3 – Repairing rain sheets
The horse of my colleague Bea stands in an open stable and wears a rain sheet. One day, the sheet had a tear – either due to a bite of another horse or the sheet had got caught somewhere. First, Bea stitched the tear, then she used WEICON GMK 2510 Contact Adhesive to seal the seam. GMK 2510 is especially suitable for plastic joints. As the rain sheet is being used again and covered in mud, we could not take a good picture. But you can find our product here.
Tip 4 – Helpful for building a paddock
In this application, a new paddock was built. In order to adjust the height, some of the galvanized bars needed to be cut off. The edge was sprayed with WEICON Galva-Spray. That way, the cut will not rust and the rust will not spread below the galvanization.
Tip 5 – Maintaining horse trailers
Greasing and oiling clutches and hinges? Cleaning the poly cover? Maintaining the rear light? In this post, you find useful information on care and maintenance of your trailer.
Tip 6 – Repairing horse trailers
The trailer is just new and someone has already scratched it in the parking lot? Here we show you, how you can fix such an annoying incident cost-effectively.
Event tip for all horse riding enthusiasts: Equitana
For everyone who definitely needs new horse riding equipment, we can recommend visiting the Equitana.
1,000 horses, 750 exhibitors, more than 200,000 visitors, 2,000 events, 9 shows – that’s what’s going on at the Equitana in Essen. Every two years, the world exhibition for equestrianism runs for nine days inluding an extensive program. Whether dressage, jumping, eventing, vaulting, driving, western, hobby riding, breeding – there is something for every taste. But the Equitana also offers a unique shopping experience. There is lots to discover in terms of horse riding equipment and gear, care products, food, horse trailers or stable technology. But as already mentioned: Rather take the time to repair and maintain old things than buy everything new.
