Self-made lanterns in autumn design
There’s no denying that summer is now officially over and autumn is starting to kick in. The weather is grey and wet on most days, the leaves have changed colours to various shades of red, yellow and orange and our favourite way to spend the day is curling up with a blanket on the sofa.
The only thing missing? The cosy autumn atmosphere, which helps us to get ready for winter: Autumn lanterns do not only warm our hearts, they also give our homes a cosy glow.
With our WEICON Adhesive Spray detachable, it is super easy to make your own autumn leaf lantern. In this post, we’ll show you how!
What you need
- Cardboard pad
- Protective gloves
- WEICON Surface Cleaner
- WEICON adhesive spray detachable
- Lantern glass with smooth surface
- Dried autumn leaves
- Candle
Step by step to your autumn leaf lantern
Step 1
First, find a dry and sheltered area outside and lay down your cardboard pad. Then, put on the protective gloves.
Step 2
Place your lantern glass on the cardboard and thoroughly clean it using WEICON Surface Cleaner. The WEICON Surface Cleaner ensures that the glass is free of greasy residues and other soilings, so that the Adhesive Spray will adhere well later on.
Step 3
Now it’s time to get serious! Attach the autumn leaves to the glass one by one. To do so, spray a layer of the Adhesive Spray onto the glass from a distance of 15 to 30 centimetres and allow to evaporate (for approximately 10 minutes).
When you carefully touch the adhesive surface with one finger and it is no longer stringy, you can attach the first leaves. How many leaves you want to use is totally up to you. You can, for example, keep applying the Adhesive Spray to the leaves and, that way, attach several layers.
The biggest advantage of working with our Adhesive Spray detachable: It is colourless, and does not cause adhesive strike-through or surface deformations in thin materials.
The result
Allow your finished autumn leaf lantern to dry for about an hour. Then it’s time to curl up and watch the candlelight flicker!
Alternative: autumn lantern with Copper Spray
If you’re a fan of slightly more subtle autumn decoration, you might like our lantern variation with WEICON Copper Spray.
For the lantern in elegant autumn design, our colleague Maren used a concrete mix especially for crafting. First, she poured the concrete into cups with different sizes, then she pushed a large tea light in the middle and allowed the mixture to cure.
Autumn design with copper spray
After curing, Maren removed the concrete lanterns from the cups, then she masked one half of each lantern with tape and sprayed the other half with WEICON Copper Spray from a distance of approximately 25 centimetres.
After four to six hours, the Copper Spray is fully cured and the simple autumn lantern is ready for a cosy evening!
