Individual design for little money and effort

Do you like DIY lamps? The right lighting plays an important role in interior design. While for focused working or cooking, sufficient brightness is essential, dimmed and warm light makes a room more comfortable and cosy.

Creative DIY lamps can give your home decoration an individual touch. There are many different ways how to create a lamp yourself. Whether made of paper, wood, copper or other materials, when creating your own lamp there are no limits. In this post, we show you two different exmples.

These DIY lamps will also look great in your garden or on your balcony this summer!

Cool and casual: The Gin lamp

Materials needed

An eye-catcher in every living room: Lamps made of bottles have their own unique style – they are showy and express creativity. All you need is a lamp socket with thread, a lampshade, a light bulb and an empty Gin bottle (you can also use any other nice-looking bottle, of course). For the adhesive bonding, you need our WEICON Surface Cleaner, WEICON Flex+bond, our WEICON Contact VA 250 Black and the WEICON Wire Stripper No. 7.

Step by step

First, you need to drill a small hole into the lower end of the bottle, where you can insert the cable. If you want to be on the safe side, you can have it done by your local glazier. Then clean the lamp socket and the bottleneck with our Surface Cleaner.

In the next step, apply the super glue VA 250 Black to the bottleneck. Then attach the lower end of the lamp socket for fixation.

In addition, remove the outer sheath of the cable with the Wire Stripper No. 7. This makes connecting the lamp socket and the conductors (blue and black) easier.

Now, you prepare the acutal adhesive bonding. For that, you use Flex+bond, as this is impact-resistant and elastic and therefore forms a very strong bond between the lamp socket and the bottle. Apply the adhesive all around the surface between the lamp socket and the bottleneck. You can spread the adhesive using your finger tip – provided that you wear gloves.

In the next step, connect the conductors inside the lamp cable to the lamp socket. Then, put the socket together, the lamp shade on top and screw the light bulb into the socket. Done!

Pleasant and naturalistic light – the salt crystal lamp

An illuminated salt crystal fills the room with a warm, soft light and its warming, orange tone creates a soothing atmosphere. Salt crystal lamps do not only look good, but they also give off a calm and relaxing vibe.

What you need

In this example, we show you how to create your own salt crystal lamp. You need the following materials: four salt crystals, a wood board suitable as base plate (it needs to have a hole, through which you can put the lamp cable later on), a lamp socket with cable, a light bulb, four screw nuts as base feet as well as our WEICON Contact VA 300 and WEICON Flex 310 M Crystal.

Easy to make

First, bond the screw nuts to the wood board as base feet, using VA 300. Then, bond the salt crystals to the other side of the wood board one after another and also bond the crystals to each other. Finally, insert the lamp cable and the lamp socket and screw a light bulb into the socket. Done!
