Our WEICON TOOLS Starter Set Pro should be part of the basic equipment of every handyman and electrician. When it comes to stripping and removing the sheath of different cables and wires, you can count on this set – whether it’s for your daily work or for tinkering in your hobby workshop.

In the first part of the series, we have shown you our handy Cable Stripper No. S 4 – 28. Today it’s time for part 2 and for an absolute classic in our range of tools – the WEICON Wire Stripper No. 5.

In the past: manual wire stripping

In the past: manual wire stripping

“Everything was better in the old days“ – we’ve all heard this sentence before and thought it to ourselves every now and then. In terms of tools for electricans, however, this is certainly not true. These have changed a lot through the years – thanks to a number of some very bright minds.

The goal of wire stripping is to separate the insulation material from the wire without damaging the latter. And that wasn’t exactly easy before tools like our No. 5 were invented.

Prior to every stripping process, a small adjustment wheel (see photo) had to be set by hand, so the edge of the wire stripper would only cut the cable sheath open as deeply as required. Thus, good visual judgement and dexterity were needed.

In addition, this method was very time-consuming and used up a lot of material, as you had to carefully figure out the right setting by stripping the wire several times.

Today, you can still buy these manual wire strippers. And working with them is not a mission impossible, but why making things more complicated, when they can be so much easier?

Today: fully automatic wire stripping

With our fully automatic Wire Stripper No. 5, two work steps can be completed at once: When squeezing the handles together, the blade of the stripper cuts the insulation open first and then removes it from the wire. That’s super fast, as you can imagine!

And the best thing: The Wire Stripper No. 5 automatically adjusts to the outside diameter of the wire, so you don’t need to carefully set an adjustment wheel by hand. That also eliminates the risk of accidentally damaging the wire! Convenient, right?
